This project started in a rented yellow Mustang convertible in sunny Miami, Florida. Tom Trinko, the originator of the idea, was with his wife Lilian to attend the 2007 Premio Lo Nuestro (Latin Music award show) and accidentally ventured into a not-so-great neighborhood. While the GPS in the car was quite handy for getting out of the neighborhood, it also became apparent that GPS technology should be combined with publicly available crime data to assist consumers in avoiding unsafe neighborhoods.
